About Us

A confluence of solutions and culture

Wrens are a diverse family of small wild birds who are known for their loud and complex songs. They are also known to represent spring and rebirth, often making their home across Interior B.C.

Our team felt this would be an appropriate symbol to represent our ideas around in-depth community news and solutions-based reporting.

Who is behind The Wren?

For several years, Brandi Schier has worked alongside Kamloops journalists who care deeply about their community. She’s learned people want to see independent, in-depth, solutions-focused local news.

As the new CEO of Discourse Community Publishing, Brandi leads a growing network of independent news outlets, including IndigiNewsThe Discourse and Sun Peaks Independent News. She’s working with her team to reimagine journalism to better serve communities, and is thrilled to launch The Wren as part of this family.
