Rebecca Owens, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter
A proud mother of four wonderful children and a freelance journalist based in beautiful Kamloops, B.C., born and raised on the unceded territory of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc. With a passion for writing and a natural sense of curiosity, Rebecca’s focus is on stories that highlight the people, events, and culture shaping our city. She believes journalism should be rooted in and accountable to the community it serves. When she is not writing, you’ll find her outdoors with her kids and dogs, soaking up the natural beauty of the region or diving into the vibrant culture that makes Kamloops so special.
The Secwépemc and Nlaka’pamux artist brings poetry, jam sessions and workshops to dozens of Vancouver Public Library branches, encouraging youth to reclaim their voice, ‘even if you can’t find it.’
For Secwépemc hunter, artist and Yukon Harvest TV personality, Ed Jensen, Tk̓emlúps Traditions is more than a business – it’s a living archive of Secwépemc knowledge.
